In 2018, a special issue on viticulture was published for the first time in the journal Erwerbs-Obstbau. Due to a large number of manuscripts submitted on this topic, a special issue could be published annually since then.
In Germany, there is a strict separation between the two areas of fruit growing and viticulture in terms of training and research. Only the cultivation of table grapes is classified as fruit growing. In other parts of the world, this separation does not exist. The cultivation of fruit and wine shows many parallels, starting with the machines, cultivation systems, plant protection measures, weather influences and finally the harvest. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for both sectors to learn from each other. In addition to fruit-growing topics, the magazine Erwerbs-Obstbau therefore also contains topics from viticulture that can provide impulses for the cultivation of fruit.
