Nuts / Nüsse

Participating journal: Applied Fruit Science
The group of nuts includes, for example, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews, sweet chestnuts, pistachios and almonds. In 2020, about 17 million tons of nuts were harvested commercially worldwide. Nuts are generally low in water and carbohydrates and high in fats, proteins, minerals, and vitamins. The fats are mostly unsaturated, and nuts are a source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. As part of a healthy human diet, long-term consumption of various nutrients in nuts may contribute to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, and lower overall mortality. For vegetarians and vegans, nuts provide many of the essential nutrients that may be in short supply in other plant foods. The fruits can be eaten fresh or processed Many experimental questions about the cultivation of nuts need to be addressed worldwide. This compilation of publications on nuts from the journal Erwerbs-Obstbau, is intended to provide a quicker overview for those specifically interested in growing nuts.
