Wirklich neu sind sie ja nun nicht mehr, die sog. „Neuen Medien“. Aus unserem Alltag sind PC, Internet, E-Mail und SMS nicht mehr wegzudenken und kaum jemand kann sich vorstellen, im Privatund Berufsleben auf sie zu verzichten. Rapide zugenommen haben in den vergangenen Jahren die Vorschläge für die Nutzung neuer Technologien im Bereich der psychosozialen Versorgung (Bauer et al. 2005, Döring u. Eichenberg 2007). Hier wurde der Einzug der Technik zunächst überwiegend skeptisch betrachtet — groß war die Verunsicherung, ob die postulierten Chancen die befürchteten Risiken überwiegen und es rechtfertigen könnten, selbige einzugehen. Auch wenn die Entwicklungen in diesem Bereich noch immer relativ am Anfang stehen, weicht diese Skepsis mittlerweile zunehmend der Auffassung, dass der Einsatz neuer Technologien die Erreichbarkeit von psychosozialen Versorgungsangeboten verbessern, ihre Nachhaltigkeit steigern und so ihren Gesamtnutzen erhöhen kann.
