Zusammenfassung
The paper focuses on the neo-institutionalist theory as a basis of educational organizational research. In a first step key terms and concepts of the theory are introduced and the more recent development of the theory building is outlined. Subsequently, empirical studies referring to neo-institutionalism found in research of higher education and adult education are analysed and discussed. The paper finishes off with concluding remarks and an outlook on further research questions.
