Abstract
Military translation studies (MTS) is an important branch of translation studies. Currently in China, both military and civilian scholars are making contribution to MTS in their own way. However, its development is not quite satisfactory. MTS in China is now plagued by such problems as insensitivity to international research findings and inadequate understanding of the importance of theoretical framing. Both problems find evidence in the quantity and quality of MTS journal articles published from 1982 to 2017. In order to overcome these problems and safeguard sound development for MTS, scholars in China need to expand their research focuses to study more topics and phenomena, and at the same time to have better theoretical awareness and step up efforts in theoretical training. Only by doing so can MTS explore MT phenomena in a comprehensive and in-depth manner, thereby living up to its name.
