Abstract
In 1945 the construction of the first computer caused a revolution in the world. It was aimed to modify the interactions between Russia and theWest. In the academic and research fields it brought back a mathematical technique known as statistical sampling, now referred to as the Monte Carlo method. S. Frankel and N. Metropolis created a model of a thermonuclear reaction for the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC), persuaded by the curiosity and interest of John von Neumann, a prominent scientist in that field.
