About this book
This textbook is a comprehensive review of many different areas in solar-pumped lasers design and characterization. It enables readers to develop their skills in general solid-state laser design and solar collector design and provides numerous solved exercises at the end of each chapter to further this development.
This book begins by introducing the brief history of solar-pumped laser and its potential applications. It explains the basic theories of imaging and non-imaging primary, secondary, and tertiary solar concentrators. It discusses solar-pumped solid-state laser theory and solar-to-laser power conversion efficiencies. There are chapters dedicated to ZEMAX and LASCAD numerical simulation tools, to help develop readers’ skills in innovative solid-state laser design.
This book is one of the first books to relate concentrated solar energy technologies to solid-state laser technologies and is therefore of interest to students, academics, engineers, and laser and optical system designers.

Reviews
Professor Zhao Changming, Beijing Institute of Technology
"To my knkowledge, this would be the first book exclusively devoted to solar pumped lasers, at least, written in English. This book will rank the best one in the field of numerical simulation of solar pumped lasers. There are no books in this topic since the 80's. Thus, this book will definetively make a huge difference. Dawei Liang ... has a very long trajectory in this field and he is very well known researcher."
Dr Alejandro Datas Medina, UPM, Madrid
"Is there a need for such a book at this level>> Yes. In fact, the topic is not comprehensively described in the literature yet. The literature is fragmented (only scientific papers are available), while didactical examples and excercises are not available. Yes. The book will be interesting for all people working in solar-pumped lasers, as well as the community working on solar concentrators and their applications. The table of Contents is adequately structured and the topics coverage appears balanced. The work appearswell organized. The topics are in logical sequence. Strengths: the book provides a comprehensive review of many different topics required or involved in solar-pumped lasers design and characterization. Some of these topics are useful for general solid-state laser design; some other topics are useful for solar collector design and applications. Solved excercises are given at the end of each chapter to make the reader familiar with the topic. Practical examples and excercises are hard or impossible to found in the literature or in the web, the book is able to address this issue."
