Abstract
A simplified analysis of the performance characteristics of pneumatically actuated artificial hearts was made. The analysis was based on the assumption that inertia forces predominated during the filling and emptying of the ventricles. The results qualitatively predictedin vitro characteristics and allowed control criteria to be based on physical principles.
