Zusammenfassung
Schlafstörungen gehören auch bei Kindern und Jugendlichen zu den häufigsten gesundheitlichen Beeinträchtigungen. Allgemein sind Schlafstörungen durch Ein- und Durchschlafstörungen gekennzeichnet. Häufig sind solche Schlafstörungen auch Teil von anderen psychischen Erkrankungen. Daher gilt das Augenmerk insbesondere psychiatrischen Störungen, deren Symptomspektrum Schlafstörung als Symptom beinhaltet. Hinzu kommen abnorme Erlebnisse und Verhaltensweisen, die während des Schlafes auftreten und entweder vom Individuum selbst oder von Bezugspersonen als störend wahrgenommen werden (Parasomnien). Differenzialdiagnostisch sind nichtpsychiatrische Erkrankungen auszuschließen. Eine medikamentöse Behandlung ist in der Regel nicht angezeigt. Indikationen für eine Pharmakotherapie sind bei ursächlichen psychiatrischen Erkrankungen, im Einzelfall bei Insomnien, Hypersomnien, Pavor nocturnus und Schlafwandeln gegeben. Bislang sind in Deutschland nur sehr wenige Medikamente zur Therapie von nichtorganischen Schlafstörungen für das Kindes- und Jugendalter zugelassen. Die Wahl des für die Therapie geeigneten Pharmakons ist abhängig von der spezifischen Schlafstörung, organischen oder psychiatrischen Komorbiditäten und vom Entwicklungsalter des Kindes oder Jugendlichen.
