Zusammenfassung
Die Sterblichkeit der schweren Sepsis und des septischen Schocks ist unverändert hoch. So sterben in deutschen Krankenhäusern nach einer Erhebung des Kompetenznetzwerks Sepsis (SepNet) immer noch 55,2 % an den Folgen der schweren Sepsis und des septischen Schocks. Der fulminante Krankheitsverlauf septischer Patienten katapultiert den Patienten von jetzt auf nachher in eine lebensbedrohliche Situation und konfrontiert die Familie und Freunde innerhalb kürzester Zeit mit der Endlichkeit des Lebens. Die Früherkennung und die Diagnose der Sepsis ist eine große Herausforderung, da es derzeit keinen Parameter gibt, der allein zur Diagnose der Sepsis führt. In diesem Kapitel werden sowohl die Früherkennungsparameter, die Präventionsmöglichkeiten, die Diagnose als auch die Behandlung der Sepsis im Rahmen eines IMC-Aufenthaltes aufgezeigt. Pflegerische Herausforderungen und Überwachungsschwerpunkte werden anhand eines Fallbeispiels vertieft.
