Zusammenfassung
Das kontinuierliche Wachstum von Pflanzen ist verbunden mit einer andauernden Neubildung von Zellen und Organen. Diesen Neubildungen liegen ständige Zellteilungsprozesse zugrunde, welche sich vorwiegend in den Meristemen, den Bildungsgeweben, wachsender Sprosse und Wurzeln abspielen. Die Zellteilung wird auf molekularer Ebene durch den Zellzyklus eingeleitet. Dieser verläuft bei nahezu allen höheren Eukaryoten in ähnlicher Weise. Man unterscheidet eine Synthese-(S-)Phase und eine mitotische (M-) Phase, mit meist ein oder mehreren dazwischen liegenden Gap- (G-)Phasen.
