Zusammenfassung

Die Verbesserung der Lebensqualität der Patientinnen und ihrer Angehörigen sind zentrales Ziel einer Palliativversorgung. Diese kann bei entsprechender Symptomlast und psychosozialen Problemen frühzeitig im Verlauf einer unheilbaren Krebserkrankung zum Einsatz kommen und spezifische onkologische Therapien ergänzen. Eine palliativmedizinische Begleitung kann die Behandlung körperlicher Symptome wie Schmerzen und Atemnot oder Symptome neurologischer bzw. gastrointestinaler Genese beinhalten, umfasst aber auch die Begleitung der Patientinnen und ihrer Angehörigen mit Blick auf ihre psychischen, sozialen und spirituellen Bedürfnisse und Probleme. Ziel ist es, ein möglichst aktives und wertvolles Leben über den gesamten fortschreitenden Erkrankungsverlauf und ein würdevolles Sterben zu ermöglichen.
