Abstract
This chapter discusses the east-bound journey of Heinrich Hoffmann’s Struwwelpeter. It begins with a short overview of Polish-language editions of the classic to show the changing context of the translation and publication history, outlining a development from the concept of an invisible translator to a celebrity translator. The analysis of Polish-language editions shows that all of them make the narrator more audible than the original, to some extent framing the uncoventionally ambivalent text into a more familiar didactic exercise. As the classic under consideration is a picturebook, an analysis of text—image dynamics complements the discussion.
