Zusammenfassung
Theorien rationaler Wahl haben einen gemeinsamen theoretischen Kern, der insbesondere in der Annahme zielgerichteter, anreizgeleiteter und vorausschauend agierender Akteure besteht. Basierend auf diesem Grundgerüst haben sich unter dem Oberbegriff des Rational-Choice-Paradigmas vielfältige Erklärungsansätze mit unterschiedlichen Annahmekombinationen entwickelt. Vor diesem Hintergrund will der vorliegende Beitrag über Varianten, zentrale Annahmen und Vorhersagen von Theorien rationaler Wahl informieren, aber auch Problemzonen und Möglichkeiten der Weiterentwicklung aufzeigen.

Eine reellwertige, stetige Nutzenfunktion besitzt diese Eigenschaft, wenn der Nutzen einer riskanten oder ungewissen Handlungsaussicht genau dem mathematischen Erwartungswert des Nutzens dieser Aussicht entspricht (von Neumann und Morgenstern 1947). Das Skalenniveau einer von Neumann-Morgenstern-Nutzenfunktion ist kardinal und erlaubt daher auch interpersonelle Nutzenvergleiche.

In einem Nash-Gleichgewicht trifft jeder Akteur bei gegebenen Strategiewahlen seiner Mitspieler die jeweils für ihn günstigste Handlungswahl; niemand kann sich also durch einseitige Abweichung vom Gleichgewichtszustand verbessern, worin dessen Stabilität begründet liegt.

Akteure werden ihre objektiven oder subjektiven Wahrscheinlichkeiten über mögliche Handlungsausgänge (a-priori-Wahrscheinlichkeiten) bei Eintreffen neuer Information bestmöglich verarbeiten, d. h. die resultierenden a-posteriori-Wahrscheinlichkeiten ergeben sich aus den a-priori-Wahrscheinlichkeiten und der neuen Information unter Verwendung elementarer Regeln der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung. Alternativ werden daher oft spieltheoretische Verhandlungslösungen des Präferenzaggregationsproblems vorgeschlagen, wobei diese zwar eine tiefere Begründung für die Entscheide eines Kollektivs liefern können, aber auch nicht alle Probleme beseitigen.
