Zusammenfassung
Das 1762 erschienene, aus fünf Büchern bestehende Werk stellt eine Mischform aus Roman und pädagogisch-philosophischem Traktat dar. Rousseau flankiert darin seine These, dass der Mensch von Natur aus gut sei und nur durch Zivilisation und Gesellschaft korrumpiert werde, durch die Schilderung des Weges, auf dem diesem Übel entgegenzusteuern und die Gesellschaft von Grund auf zu heilen sei.
