About the editors
Mr Andreas Gravvanis, MD, PhD, FEBOPRAS currently works as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the General State Hospital of Athens, Greece. Following his basic Plastic Surgery training at the General State Hospital of Athens and at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan, where he focused on Facial Paralysis/Brachial Plexus Surgery, he completed 3 Microsurgical Fellowships: at St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery UK, focusing on Breast/Microsurgery; Gent Plastic Surgery University Department, Belgium, focusing on Breast Reconstruction; and a EURAPS/AAPS fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Centre, University of Texas, USA, focusing on Head & Neck Cancer reconstruction. From 2007 to 2008, he worked as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, UK. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 publications in peer‐reviewed journals and 3 book chapters. He is an active member of EURAPS and serves on the Editorial Board of “Microsurgery.”
Professor Despoina D. Kakagia, MD, PhD, FEBOPRAS is an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Democritus University in Thrace, Alexandroupolis, Greece. After qualifying in Medicine in 1990, she pursued comprehensive training in plastic surgery in Athens, Greece, and has been practicing Reconstructive and Cosmetic Plastic Surgery since 1998. Professor Kakagia had further Microsurgery, Hand and Breast Surgery training in Canniesburn, Glasgow, Scotland, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, UK, and Aachen University Hospital, Germany. She is a member of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (HESPRAS) and a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS). She has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, one book and 5 book chapters. She is an active reviewer for 26 international journals.
Mr Venkat Ramakrishnan, MS, FRCS, FRACS qualified in Medicine in 1983 and engaged in comprehensive training in plastic surgery in Australia. He has been practicing reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery since 1987 and is, amongst others, a member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Since 2002, he has been working as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns, Chelmsford, UK, and has been involved in teaching and training registrars. He is also a Professor of Plastic Surgery at Anglia Ruskin University, UK, and head of the Breast Reconstruction Service at Mid Essex Trust Hospital. He is Chair of the BSRM Microsurgical Committee, and served on the Project Board of the National Mastectomy & Reconstruction Audit for the Health Care Commission.
