The influence of pixel size and bit depth of a CCD camera used to record digital holograms of particles on the quality of the reconstructed images is investigated. With the help of previously introduced quality criteria, the number of diffraction maxima in the intensity distribution in the holography plane which are needed to record the hologram in order to obtain a reconstructed image of prescribed quality has been determined. Results are adduced of both numerical and physical experiments on holography of model and plankton particles.
