Abstract
Titanium is still a young material. In the mid of the last century first alloys enabled the entry into the age of jet engines – a step into a new era of aerospace. By now, titanium and its alloys have proven their capability in many additional high-tech applications. The present paper describes the most important alloys and their applications. With the development of intermetallic titanium aluminides the potential of titanium alloys as innovative high-temperature materials was increased considerably.
