Summary
Investigations on the strength of micro samples are of great importance for theoretical as well as for practical reasons. In particular, studies on the deformation of the tissue and the cells under tensile stress are of high interest. The present paper describes a device which serves to determine the tensile strength of individual wood fibers and also of micro samples on only a few micrometers in thickness and which at the same time makes possible the microscopic observation of the deformation and the process of rupture.
