Zusammenfassung
Kapitel 4 beschreibt zunächst in einem kurzen Rückblick die Anfänge der systematischen Erforschung des Zusammenhangs von körperlicher Aktivität und Gesundheit. Die Betrachtungen zum gesundheitlichen Nutzen basieren hierbei auf den Effekten körperlicher Aktivität hinsichtlich geringerer Sterberaten (Mortalität) und dem präventiven Potenzial, bestimmten, meist chronischer Erkrankungen, vorzubeugen (Morbidität). Zur differenzierten Betrachtung unter sportmedizinischen Gesichtspunkten sowie möglichen Interventionsansätzen in der medizinischen Trainingstherapie erfolgt im Weiteren eine Konzentration auf die körperliche Fitness als Prädiktor der körperlichen Gesundheit.
