Zusammenfassung
Im vorliegenden Kapitel werden Möglichkeiten des Scheiterns bei strategischen Entscheidungen diskutiert. Zu Beginn wird aufgeführt, dass strategische Entscheidungen insbesondere bei Innovationen durch besondere Neuartigkeit, Unsicherheit, Komplexität und Konflikthaftigkeit gekennzeichnet sind, Entscheidungsträger diesen Herausforderungen gleichfalls nur mit einer allenfalls begrenzten Rationalität entgegentreten können. Ausgehend von diesen Überlegungen werden am Beispiel von Innovationskontexten typische Verzerrungen im Denken, Urteilen und Entscheiden (Biases) aufgezeigt, die aus diesem Dilemma resultieren. Zuletzt wird argumentiert, dass schlechte Entscheidungen und daraus resultierendes Scheitern nie gänzlich vermieden werden können: sie sind Bestandteil der menschlichen Denk- und Verhaltensrealität. Allerdings ergibt sich eine wirkungsvolle Strategie zum besseren Umgang mit Biases: Gerade das Vergegenwärtigen der eigenen kognitiven Grenzen kann zu einer Reduktion der eigenen Anfälligkeit für Urteilsverzerrungen führen.
