Zusammenfassung
Es geht in dem Beitrag um zwei Fragen: Variieren die sozialen und ethnischen Unterschiede in der Bildungsbeteiligung einerseits und in den Leistungen andererseits in der Sekundarstufe mit dem je nach Bildungssystem unterschiedlichen Input (an Qualität, Zeit, Curriculum), mit der (frühen) Differenzierung in unterschiedliche Bildungswege und mit der Organisation der Schulen, des Unterrichts und der Examina? Für Input und Organisation sind die Ergebnisse recht eindeutig: Ein qualitativ besserer Input und eine stärker an den Leistungen orientierte Organisation verringern die sozialen und ethnischen Unterschiede sowohl in der Bildungsbeteiligung als auch bei den Leistungen. Für die Differenzierung sind die Befunde allerdings weniger klar. In den differenzierten Bildungssystemen ist die Bildungsbeteiligung im Vergleich zur Integration allgemein geringer und sozial weniger durchlässig, aber die Unterschiede sind international nicht sonderlich ausgeprägt und die Migrantenkinder schlagen, wenn sie es nur können, eher die höheren Bildungswege ein, auch unabhängig von ihrer sozialen Positionierung. Nach Befunden auf der Grundlage der internationalen Vergleichsstudien (wie vor allem PISA) verstärken sich die sozialen und ethnischen Unterschiede in den Leistungen im Vergleich zur Integration, ohne dass sich die Leistungen erhöhen. Die betreffenden Untersuchungen berücksichtigen jedoch die verschiedenen Effekte der Schulen und Schulklassen und die Fähigkeiten und Leistungen bei der Sortierung am Ende der Grundschule nicht. Daher ist davon auszugehen, dass die Einflüsse der sozialen und darüber auch der ethnischen Herkunftüberschätzt worden sind und sich die Effekte der vorher erworbenen kognitiven Fähigkeiten beziehungsweise die der Leistungshomogenisierung in den Schulen und Schulklassen erst gar nicht haben zeigen können. In den Beiträgen, in denen das (mit anderen Datensätzen und Vorgehensweisen) berücksichtigt wird, zeigen sich die stratifizierenden Effekte der Differenzierung dementsprechend entweder deutlich verringert oder so gut wie nicht mehr und drehen sich gegebenenfalls sogar in Vorteile für die Kinder aus unteren Schichten und in Leistungssteigerungen um. Das gilt besonders, wenn bei der Sortierung am Ende der Grundschule die Einflüsse der Familien begrenzt werden und sich die Schulen strikt an den bis dahin gezeigten Leistungen orientieren. Dies trifft jeweils auch für die Migrantenkinder zu, insbesondere bei sprachlicher Akkulturation. Wirklich geklärt ist die Frage, ob die Differenzierung zur Steigerung der Leistungen oder zur Verstärkung der sozialen und ethnischen Bildungsungleichheit führt, bisher allerdings nicht.
