Abstract

Abstract „Peer-Kultur, Männlichkeit und Schule“

On the basis of empirical, school-based studies this paper explores the contours of young masculinities in peer groups within educational environments. The author explains the different elements that constitute masculinity. Apart from humour and competitive gameplaying, homophobia plays a key role in the development of masculinity. This concept of masculinity charged with these elements simultaneously presents itself as a tough yet fragile construction that has to be constantly reconstructed within the peer group.
