Abstract
In the Tadikivat of Ali Ibn Isa [1], from the tenth century, removal of the temporal artery was recommended in order to treat ‘not only migraine and headache in those patients that are subject to chronic eye disease, but al.so acute, sharp, catarrhal affections including those showing heat and inflammation of the temporal muscles. These diseased conditions may terminate in loss of sight’.
