Abstract
Before we can fully understand sound communication in fishes, it is necessary to learn more about the communication of specific forms in their natural environments. This investigation was conducted to clarify some aspects of the breeding season sounds of the toadfish, Opsanus tau (Linnaeus).
This research was supported partially by an NDEA Title IV fellowship to the author, and also by NONR contract 396(08), and USPHS research grant 5-R01-NB06397 to H. E. Winn. The report was submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the author’s Ph. D. at the University of Rhode Island.
