Abstract
Many motile microorganisms, such as flagellates and ciliates, optimize their posi- tion in the water column by motile responses controlled by external stimuli. The photosynthetic, unicellular flagellate Euglena gracilis primarily uses light ([Lebert and Häder 2000], [Lebert 2001])and gravity ([Häder et al 2003]) for this purpose.
