Abstract
The scientific experimentation was performed using 28 clinically healthy crossbred castrated young boars (F-2: (LW × L) × D). The pigs (n = 14) of the control group (C) fed basic diet. The animals of the experimental group (E) (n = 14) were fed Taxifolin (TAX) in addition to the basic diet (32 mg/head/day). THI (Temperature-Humidity Index) was at 72–82 in the 2nd experiment period (middle of fattening). The effect of feeding TAX with mixed fodder was evident in the increase of ADG in some periods of the experiment (week 1, p < 0.05; weeks 7, 11 and 17, p < 0.10). In the initial period of fattening, against the background of elevated temperature in Group E, the total antioxidant status (TAS) was higher (p < 0.05), while the total amount of water-soluble antioxidants (TAWSA) was lower (p < 0.01). The increase in TAS (p < 0.05) occurred under the influence of TAX feeding and in subsequent fattening periods with stabilization of TAWSA at the level of Group C. Thus, feeding pigs of TAX as an additional prophylactic component of feed at certain periods of fattening can favorably effect their productivity, contributing to better adaptation to environmental conditions.
