Abstract
In the recent era, applications of the multilevel inverter (MLI) technology have expanded in the various areas of power conversion technology. MLI facilitates the efficient use of renewable energy sources, and power from renewable resources is DC in nature and is to be converted to AC for domestic/industrial loads. The efficient conversion of power from DC to AC is accomplished by these MLIs. There are various topologies of multilevel inverter, but the major drawbacks are related to their complexity and they require high count of power devices. In this regard, this paper proposes a topology with six unidirectional switches and two voltage sources to obtain five-level and seven-level voltage. This configuration produces improved quality of output waveform with reduced harmonic content and device count when compared to classical topologies. The proposed topology has been validated in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.
