Abstract
Miller (1987) tells us that “every childhood’s traumatic experiences remain hidden and locked in darkness, and the key to our understanding of the life that follows is hidden away with them” (p. 5). This key was given to me at the time of a traumatic incident that involved myself, my sister and our father, but I was slow to understand what had been placed in my hands at the time. It was only after another thirteen years and a last and final traumatic incident between myself and my sister that I recognised what had lain within my grasp for a long while.
