Supercritical fluid extraction coupled to packed column supercritical fluid chromatography

  • Chapter
Analytical Supercritical Fluid Extraction Techniques

Abstract

Although the solvating ability of supercritical fluids was first recognised by Hannay and Horgarth working with supercritical ethanol in 1897 [1], supercritical fluids found little application as extraction media until the early 1960s when Zosel [2] working at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research introduced supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) as an industrial process, although Zhuze and co-workers had described an earlier process for the extraction of lanolin from wool grease in 1958 [3].
