Abstract
The influence of initiator nature upon the generation of polystyrene particles on styrene polymerization in the medium of liquid polysiloxane has been studied. It is found that with the use of di-tert-butyl peroxide initiator in the presence of which polymerization is accompanied with gel-effect, the anisometric polystyrene (PSt) particles are formed, when employing tert-butyl hydroperoxide initiator, in the presence of which gel-effect does not take place, spherical ones are formed. In the first case the deformation of polymer-monomeric particles is shown to be due to the increase in viscosity of the latter ones because of the increase in the molecular weight of the polystyrene formed in the course of gel-effect.
