Abstract
The most challenging task to be solved in the field of scientific research and engineering is the development of a full operational system with all its components, sub-systems and functions. A design process generally consists of iterative procedures between reference task function analysis, conceptual design and embodiment design. In this paper we deal with the first two stages of the design process. So, a conceptual design approach for piezoactuated micromanipulators is developed here. The reference task function is considered as an area in the manifold of the possible functions, which describes the state of the micromanipulation system to be designed, including the motions, qualitative parameters, constraints (e.g. force, space, etc.).
