Abstract
The National Institutes of Health have supported a CAPD Registry since 1981. Since there has been no USA Registry for patients undergoing all forms of chronic dialysis therapy, the USA CAPD Registry was created to monitor certain outcome measures during the rapid growth and development of this relatively newer form of therapy. A portion of the 1988 Registry Report is included in this book for several reasons. First, the report represents the status of the Registry at the time this book was prepared. This may clarify to some extent the state of affairs impacting on the thinking of respetive authors. Secondly, the Report includes cumulative data over the life span of the Registry since 1981 and portrays much of what has happened to CAPD and CCPD over the time period from the first to the third edition of the book.
