Abstract
The construction of recombinant genomic DNA clone banks containing complete plant genomes followed the construction of similar clone banks with mammalian DNAs by about three years. The reason for this lag period was not due to the lack of interest or trying, but due to an inability to clone plant DNAs using the λ vector system.
