Riassunto
Sono definite chimiche le proprietà che dipendono dalla natura chimica (atomica e molecolare) dei materiali e che variano solo per modificazioni, il più delle volte irreversibili, della loro struttura chimica; tali modificazioni, peraltro, determinano profondi cambiamenti anche in numerose proprietà fisiche dei materiali. Per struttura chimica di un materiale si può intendere l’insieme della natura chimica dei costituenti la materia e della loro organizzazione; considerando questi due elementi rappresentativi dei solidi utilizzati per produrre imballaggi, si ricavano utili e semplici criteri di classificazione ed, in questo contesto, può risultare conveniente definire, preliminarmente, le relazioni che esistono tra la struttura chimica dei materiali e alcune fondamentali caratteristiche dei materiali di confezionamento.
