Abstract
The Liver Cancer Study Group of Japan has been conducting a follow up study of patients with primary liver cancer throughout the country since 1965 [1–7]. Up to December 31, 1987, more than 30,000 patients from 601 hospitals were registered in a computer at Kyoto University. This article reports the survival rates of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and with cholangiocellular carcinoma treated by partial hepatic resection, on the basis of responses received from January 1, 1978, when a prototype of the present questionnaire was introduced, to December 31, 1987. Special attention is paid to the survival rates in relation to clinicopathological factors, which provide significant information for estimating the prognosis in patients with primary liver cancer.
