Die Wurzeln der Deutschen Post gehen zurück bis in das Jahr 1490, als Kaiser Maximilian I. die Familie Taxis (später Thurn und Taxis) damit beauftragte, einen geregelten Briefverkehr zu etablieren, der die Briefe des Kaisers in ganz Europa überbrachte. Im Jahr 1899 wurde der Beschluss über das Monopol der Kaiserlichen Reichspost erlassen.
