Zusammenfassung
Spina bifida, Querschnittlähmung, Zerebralparese, Sehbehinderung und Gehörlosigkeit sind Beispiele für ein bei Geburt bereits bestehendes bzw. durch Krankheit oder Unfall im Kindes- und Jugendalter erworbenes Handicap. Die von einer solchen Behinderung Betroffenen weisen meist eine reduzierte kardiorespiratorische Fitness und Muskelkraft, einen höheren Körperfettanteil sowie eine eingeschränkte Beweglichkeit auf. Im Sinne der Prävention und einer möglichst hohen Lebensqualität mit größtmöglicher Selbstständigkeit im Erwachsenenalter sollte daher so früh wie möglich mit körperlicher Aktivität und Training begonnen werden. Da evidenzbasierte Bewegungs- und Trainingsempfehlungen für Kinder und Jugendliche mit Handicap weitgehend fehlen, richtet sich Inhalt, Dauer, Häufigkeit und Intensität des Trainings zunächst nach den körperlichen Voraussetzungen mit dem Ziel, sich schrittweise den allgemein gültigen Bewegungs- und Trainingsempfehlungen für gesunde Kinder und Jugendliche im Sinne von „Exercise is Medicine“ anzunähern.
