Zusammenfassung
Seit der Erstbeschreibung eines von der Duodenalmuskulatur unabhängigen Sphinkterapparates in der Vaterschen Papille, der den Gallen- und Pankreassekretfluss reguliert, durch Ruggero Oddi 1887, wurden eine Vielzahl von Oberbauchbeschwerden auf mögliche Funktionsstörungen dieses Sphinkters zurückgeführt. Bis in die 1970er Jahre konnte die Motilität des Sphinkter Oddi beim Menschen nur indirekt durch radiologische Methoden (i.v.-Cholangiografie „Papillenspiel“) oder intraoperativ mittels Radiomanometrie studiert werden. Trotz vielfältiger Versuche gelang es jedoch mit diesen Methoden nicht, zwischen einer normalen und einer gestörten Sphinkter-Oddi-Motilität zu differenzieren, und es musste daher eingesehen werden, dass eine Sphinkter-Dysfunktion mit diesen Verfahren nicht diagnostiziert werden konnte.
