Zusammenfassung
Die Nachhaltigkeitsberichterstattung wird mehr und mehr zu einem festen Bestandteil der CSR‐Kommunikation – vor allem bei Großunternehmen. Im Jahr 2015 gaben 92 % der größten 250 Unternehmen weltweit einen Nachhaltigkeitsbericht heraus. Unter den 100 größten Unternehmen aus je 45 Ländern waren es immerhin noch drei Viertel (KPMG 2015). Gleichzeitig ist auch eine immer stärker werdende Standardisierung zu beobachten. Diese äußert sich zunächst darin, dass moderne Nachhaltigkeitsberichterstattung Elkingtons (1997) Idee einer „Triple Bottom Line“ Rechnung trägt und Unternehmen ihre ökonomische, soziale und ökologische Leistung darin dokumentieren. Diese „drei Säulen“ der Nachhaltigkeit werden heute gemeinhin um Governance‐Information erweitert, sodass sich vier Dimensionen des Reporting ergeben. Im Speziellen schlägt sich die Standardisierung aber auch darin nieder, dass Unternehmen immer häufiger auf Reporting‐Standards – im globalen Kontext gesehen ist dies vornehmlich die Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) – zurückgreifen. Drei Viertel der 250 größten Unternehmen weltweit gestalten ihren Bericht den Anforderungen der GRI entsprechend (KPMG 2015).
