Zusammenfassung

In Reaktion auf die weltweit zunehmende Anzahl und Bedeutung innerstaatlicher Konflikte haben sich die internationalen Bemühungen zur friedlichen Konfliktregelung intensiviert. Insbesondere die Vereinten Nationen haben sich bereits seit den 1990er Jahren vermehrt in den Politikfeldern Konfliktverhütung, Konfliktbearbeitung und Friedensaufbau engagiert. Bislang fällt die Bilanz dieser Bemühungen allerdings ambivalent aus: Zahlreiche gewalttätige Auseinandersetzungen konnten nicht oder nur vorübergehend beendet werden.
