Zusammenfassung
Während die Game Studies mittlerweile auf einen fachlich breit aufgestellten Literaturkorpus blicken können, befindet sich die Forschung zu Computerspielmusik im Vergleich noch in ihrer Startphase. Ziel dieses Kapitels ist es, neben einer kurzen Einführung in die Geschichte und Kompositionstechniken der Computerspielmusik einen Überblick über das noch junge Feld der Computerspielmusikforschung und die bis dato vorhandene Literatur zu geben. Dabei liegt der Fokus auf Musik in Computerspielen. Musikspiele, Formen der Weiterverwendung oder kulturelle Auswirkungen (zum Beispiel auf andere musikalische Genres) finden Erwähnung, können aber nicht vertiefend betrachtet werden. In der abschließenden Beispielanalyse wird anhand der im Egoshooter Left 4 Dead (2008) angewandten Leitmotivtechnik die Überführung einer filmischen in eine computerspielspezifische Musikverwendung aufgezeigt.
