Zusammenfassung
Am Beginn des abendländischen Denkens waren sie geschwisterlich vereint: Das Ethos galt als die Lebensform der Polis. In ihm versammelte sich, was von einem Bürger als selbstverständlich erwartet werden durfte: ein Verhalten vor allem, das dem Anspruch der Polis, den Menschen zu einer über das kreatürliche Leben (zoé, der biologische Begriff von Leben) erhebenden kultivierten Lebensform (bíos, der teleologische Begriff von Leben) zu führen, angemessen war. Auf diesem Weg findet der Mensch zur Erfüllung seines Seins: politisch, als Bürger.
