Recent Trends in the Development and Application of the Monte Carlo Method

  • Chapter
Monte Carlo Methods in Statistical Physics

Part of the book series: Topics in Current Physics ((TCPHY,volume 7))

Abstract

This chapter tries to summarize some of the general progress which has been made during the last decade in the understanding of the Monte Carlo method in statistical physics and in its efficient implementation; but it will also point out some problems which still remain to be solved. In fact, there has been an enormously growing interest in the use of this method, and even a brief review of its recent applications fills a whole book [10.11; thus, the present chapter will not attempt to cover these applications in complete detail, but rather attention will be focused on a few highlights which serve to illustrate some general points.
