Abstract
Displaced fractures of the acetabulum usually lead to disabling post-traumatic arthritis if the joint is not accurately reduced by open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). For the fracture surgeon, acetabular fractures pose some of the most difficult technical problems. These difficulties include:
-
1.
Correct characterization of the fracture type.
-
2.
Selection of the surgical approach.
-
3.
Performing the specialized surgical approaches that are necessary.
-
4.
Obtaining a satisfactory reduction and fixation.
