Abstract
The environmental factors that can affect humans are many and varied. These influences activate regulatory mechanisms in the body that produce short-term adjustments within minutes or hours, and long-term adaptation of the organism within days or weeks. These modifications enable humans to live and/or work at high altitudes and under water, from the polar regions to the equator.
