Zusammenfassung
Die elektrophysiologischen Untersuchungsmethoden mit der Messung lichtabhängiger Potentialantworten des Auges und des visuellen Kortex nehmen einen festen Platz in der ophthalmologischen Diagnostik ein. Drei verschiedene Methoden werden als Routineverfahren eingesetzt: das Elektrookulogramm (EOG) zur Untersuchung des retinalen Pigmentepithels, das Elektroretinogramm (ERG) zur Untersuchung verschiedener Netzhautschichten und die visuell evozierten kortikalen Potentiale (VEP) zur Untersuchung der Sehbahn bis zum visuellen Kortex. Durch die Wahl verschiedener Reizparameter, wie z. B. Schachbrettmuster oder Lichtblitze variabler Helligkeit und Farbe, sowie durch variable Adaptationszustände der Netzhaut ist eine differenzierte Untersuchung verschiedener Komponenten des Sehsystems möglich. Dabei ist zu berücksichtigen, daß alle gemessenen Potentiale Summenantworten zahlreicher Einzelpotentiale neuronaler Zellen sind, wobei sich die Potentiale verschiedener Zellgruppen teilweise einander überlagern.
