Zusammenfassung
Die symmetrische periphere Neuropathie ist eine häufige Komplikation des Diabetes mellitus. Es gibt bisher keine wirksame Behandlung der hiermit einhergehenden Schmerzen und sensiblen Störungen.
In der Vorstellung, dass eine gestörte Glukosetoleranz periphere Nervenkompressionen begünstigt, haben Dellon et al. ein Behandlungsmodell für die diabetische Polyneuropathie entwickelt, mit dem Ziel, die Sensibilität zu verbessern und Sekundärschäden wie Ulcera und Amputationen zu reduzieren, bzw. zu verhindern.
Trotz mehrerer großer Studien ist das Verfahren umstritten. Auch bei multipler Nervenläsionen im Verlauf einer Lepra ist der Wert operativer Dekompressionen nicht gesichert.
