Zusammenfassung
In den chirurgischen Fachrichtungen ist die Sportorthopädie ein sehr dynamischer und von Wandel geprägter Bereich. Da sich in der Sportorthopädie ein Patientenklientel findet, das meist körperlich sehr aktiv ist und sich zudem in den letzten 20 Jahren eine deutliche Verschiebung der sportlich aktiven Altersgrenzen ergeben hat, wird nicht nur der klassischerweise junge Mensch sondern es werden auch immer häufiger Menschen fortgeschrittenen Alters als Patienten in diesem Fach betreut. Allen gemeinsam ist der Anspruch auf eine optimal funktionelle Wiederherstellung mit möglichst kurz dauernder Rekonvaleszenz sowie guten langfristigen Versorgungsergebnissen. Ebenso wie sich die Klientel verändert hat, wurde die Operationstechnik in den vergangenen zwanzig Jahren von zumeist offenen OP-Techniken hin zu arthroskopischen, minimalinvasiven Verfahren weiter entwickelt. Die Vorteile der minimalinvasiven Technik liegen in deutlich geringeren Operationstraumen, schnellerer Heilung, weniger Schmerzen und unter sozioökonomischer Sicht deutlich verkürzten Hospitalisierungszeiten.
