Bei der Analyse sozialer Netzwerke (social network analysis, Netzwerkanalyse) handelt es sich sowohl um eine Reihe von formalen Verfahren zur Analyse von Beziehungen zwischen Akteuren und deren Mustern als auch um eine Theorieperspektive auf eben solche Beziehungen. In diesem Beitrag zeichnen wir Entwicklungen der netzwerkanalytischen und -theoretischen Forschung der letzten Jahrzehnte in Deutschland zunächst kurz historisch, dann an Hand einer inhaltlichen Kodierung von Artikeln in sozialwissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften im Zeitraum von 1980 bis 2006 nach. So wird auf Basis einer empirischen Analyse das aktuelle Feld der Netzwerkanalyse und-theorie in den sozialwissenschaften in seiner strukturellen Konfiguration in Deutschland aufgezeigt. In einem weiteren Schritt wird die Veränderung des Feldes über Zeit mit Blockmodellanalysen verschiedener Phasen dargestellt. Die explorative empirische Übersicht über den Bestand und die Entwicklung des Forschungsfelds dient schließlich dazu, auf mögliche Leerstellen und Potentiale hinzuweisen. Gerade neuere netzwerktheoretische Ansätze aus den USA, die sich verstärkt mit der Rolle und Analyse von Kultur als Sinnmuster beschäftigen, könnten deutschsprachige Ansätze fruchtbar erweitern.
